2005 sept 19th a developing Tropical storm Rita hits with 60mph winds while moving west.

1888 sept 4th 95mph direct hit many klilled
1924 july 25th many killed
1926 July 25th 125mph from the SE 427 homes destroyed.
again in 1926 sept 17th 150mph winds eye passed just north.Storm surge killed many and mass graves were used to bury the dead.
1933 Sept 3rd passes just north with 140mph winds,nearly every home severely damaged. Fourteen people drowned with 8 missing.
1954 Hurricane Hazel passes just east with 105mph winds while moving north on Oct 14th.
1960 in september 7th hurricane Donna
hit with 135mph winds for 13 hrs totally destroying the island,90% of homes suffered extreme damage more here | Gordon Dunn talks about forecasting Donna
1963 hurricane
Flora hit with 80mph winds causing moderate to heavy damage
1996 hurricane
Bertha passes to the N.E with 110mph winds area had gusts to 90mph minor damage
2004,Sept 2nd Hurricane Frances passes just North with 145mph winds,causing minor to moderate damage here.
