1959 Sept 29th 120mph Gracie just south area got gusts to 140mph spawned many tornadoes dumped 11 inches of rain on the area a fast moving hurricane which saved many lives,Most homes on beaches destroyed. Damage report
1979 Sept 5th Hurricane david pases just west of here with 75mph winds from the south.
