1966 hurricane Inez sept 27th 120mph winds from the east, 27 killed 600 injured. NHC Wallet
1979 Aug 29th Hurricane David passes just south from the ESE with 145mph winds. NHC Wallet
1989 Hurricane Hugo passes over north part of Island Sept 17th with 140mph winds from the ESE. 10,000 homes destroyed, leaving 35,000 of the island's 340,000 people homeless. Four people died and 107 were injured , total damage to the island from Hugo amounted to $880 million.Newspaper headline
1995 hurricane Marilyn sept 14th just SW with 80mph winds bar 29.03 minimal damage from the S.E. Disaster survey report
1998 Sept 20th Hurricane Georges passes just N.E from the ESE with 115mph winds. NHC Report
2017 Sept 19th Hurricane Maria passes just 40 miles to the south while moving N.W with 160mph winds. No sustained hurricane force winds reported on island Gourbeyre Gros-Morne Dole reported gust to 101mph but not sustained hurricane force. South tip of island affected by HF northern bands for only a short time. In Guadeloupe, two direct fatalities are attributed to Maria: one person died from a falling tree, and another was swept out to sea. Hurricane-force wind gusts and heavy rain caused a great deal of damage, especially along the southern portions of Basse-Terre Island. An estimated 80,000 homes were without electricity, and almost the entire banana crop was destroyed. An estimated $120 million in damage was reported for Guadeloupe. NHC report
