120mph winds from the east wipes out sugar crop kills 1,000 .Newspaper article 1964 Aug 25th,Hurricane Cleo psses just south of here with 80mph winds from the ESE.Hurricane hunter aircraft reports heavy damage to wings. 1966 Sept 30th,Hurricane Inez passes just north from the ESE with 75mph winds 2005 July 8th,hurricane Dennis hits while moving NW passing just south with 130mph winds.President Fidel Castro said 10 people, including an 18-day-old baby and 95-year-old man, were killed in the provinces of Granma and Santiago after Dennis raked Cuba's south coast on Thursday. Cuban officials said about 6,000 homes had been damaged or destroyed by the storm in the province of Granma where 24-foot storm surges were reported. Just to the south in Cabo Cruz instruments measured sustained winds of 133mph gusts to 148mph 956mb.
