1878 Oct 23rd 95mph from the south hurricane's eye made landfall at Cape Fear and moved north across Richmond and Washington, DC press 28.78
1954 Oct 15th 90mph extratropical hurricane from the south Hazel hits just west the area breaks off the steeple at trinity methodist church,also in newport news virginia she pulled the battleship kentucky loose & washed it onshore 28.63 while becoming extratropical
2003 Sept 18th Hurricane Isabel hits south of here from the S.E with 75mph winds.
